MRS. HENRY NIENDICK KILLED BY PENNSY TRAIN

Mrs. Henry Niendick, nee Mary Deters passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital at Effingham about 10:30 o'clock Saturday evening, July 1, 1933 as the result of being hit by a Pennsylvania engine switching on the tracks at the Clinton Avenue I. C. crossing at Effingham.

Mrs. Niendick, who had been employed at the Star Cafe in Effingham for some time past was on her way to work at 8:45 P. M. Saturday, and as she neared the railroad crossing, she waited for a passenger train to pass and apparently failed to see or hear the switch-engine when she started across the tracks. Witnesses to the accident were unable to warn Mrs. Niendick of her approaching danger until it was too late. Altho her body was horribly mangled, Mrs. Niendick was still conscious when picked up and rushed to St. Anthony's hospital where she lapsed into unconsciousness shortly after her arrival, dying at about 10:30 o'clock.

Mrs. Ninedick was about 68 years old at the time of her death and is survived by three daughters and two sons, namely: Anna (Mrs. Herman) Westendorf of Dieterich; Catherine (Mrs. Frank) Kemme of Effingham; Agnes (Mrs. Owen) Steffy of Cincinnati; Frank of Terre Haute and Anthony of Dieterich. Her husband died about 7 years ago.

Mrs. Niendick was a former resident of Dieterich but had been residing at 410 Linden Ave., Effingham, for some time past. She was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Church at Effingham where funeral services were held Tuesday morning, July 4th. Burial took place in the cemetery at Dieterich.

Anton Deters of Teutopolis is a brother of Mrs. Niendick.
