CHRISTIAN NOSBISCH

ONE OF THE COUTNY'S MOST PROMINENT MEN

Died At His Home East of Town Last Friday Afternoon—Funeral Services Wednesday

The news of the death of Christian Nosbisch one of this county's most prominent men, reached us Friday afternoon and carried with it one of the most severe shocks that has been experienced for some time. It has been known for some time past that Mr. Nosbisch was in failing health and his declining years made his recovery to health seem almost impossible, but there is always a hope as long as there is life that the sufferer may be relieved and that he may be spared to his friends and the members of his family.

Mr. Nosbisch had attained the ripe old age of eighty years and by his careful and skillful management had amassed quite a snug little fortune. His advise on any subject with which he was familiar was considered to be final by all his acquaintances and was frequently sought and freely given. He was a man of sterling qualities and always stood ready to stand by his fellow men in their hours of need.

He was a native of Rhine Province, Germany, and the teutonic trails of true friendship and congeniality were ever evident throughout the longevity of this good man. He was a member of the Catholic Church at this place and was also very active in the St. Peter Sodality which organization honored him on four different occasions by choosing him as their delegate to the State convention of German Catholic Societies. He was always ready with a willing mind and hand for any thing that might be for the betterment of his friends or neighbors or the community in which he lived. His presence, and his citizenship are gone from us but the good he has done for the uplifting of his fellow men can never die.

Christian Nosbisch was born January 23, 1863, in Hettinger, Kreis, Betberg, Rhine Province, Prussia, and came to this country in 1857, first locating in the northern part of this state and Iowa, then he came to St. Clair county and later in the fall of 1868 came to St. Francis Township. On the fourteenth of November 1871 he was united in marriage with Anna Mersdorf who preceded him to the great beyond less than a year ago.

To this union was born eleven children, one of whom died in infancy. Those living are: Mrs. William (Susie) Miller; John, Mathais, Nicholas, Mrs. Dan (Catherine) Ordner; Mrs. Joe (Mary) Zerusen; Mrs. Harry (Anna) Thoele; Lilly, Barbara and Theresa.

Funeral services were conducted at the church here Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock by Rev. Father Theodosius followed by interment in the St. Francis cemetery. The remains were followed to their last resting place by one of the largest concourses of sorrowing friends and relatives ever assembled on an occasion of this kind, all which go to prove the very high esteem in which the deceased was held by those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance during any portion of his useful life.

We extend our condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved children and relatives in the loss of the father and kin.

Card of Thanks

We wish to thank the many friends and neighbors who so untiringly assisted us during the sickness and after the death of our beloved father, Christian Nosbisch, and especially do we wish to thank Rev. Fr. Theodosius for his services and many acts of kindness during our bereavement.

THE CHILDREN.
